Spring Morning Meeting
birds, horses, and folks
NB: You're welcome to listen to these tracks in any way you wish. My preference is to go to or be in a quiet and uninterrupted space, use a headphone, set my playback volume at a comfortable level, and keep the volume unchanged while playing.
In late March (early Spring) 2019, our party of six visited our friend's house in River Falls, WI, US. In the morning, around 7:00 - 8:00 am, we accompanied our host taking care of his horses in his ranch, about 200m from the house, while there were many birds—blue jays, yellow-bellied sapsuckers, cardinals, red-winged blackbirds, black-capped chickadees, nuthatches, sparrows, and robins, to name a few—chirping and tweeting around the house.
I recorded this moment—I put a recorder on our host pickup car in front of the house, close enough to where those birds were ‘hanging out.’ At some points in the recording, you may hear birds chirping and their wings flapping in a very close range to the microphone, horses nickering from afar, a friend playing with the host’s dog, and some of my friends chatting about things and occasionally laughing.
